Designed as a compact yet highly functional stand-alone dwelling, this project was developed to provide flexible accommodation suitable for both short-term holiday stays and long-term living, while also allowing for future owner occupation. Every aspect of the design was carefully considered to maximise comfort, spatial efficiency and long-term adaptability within a modest 60m² footprint.
The interior adopts a warm contemporary aesthetic, balancing clean architectural lines with rich natural textures and earthy tones to create an inviting atmosphere. A split-level living arrangement enhances the sense of space, with a dramatic double-height void and custom timber screening providing visual connection between levels while subtly defining each area. Large windows flood the home with natural light and strengthen the relationship between the interior and surrounding landscape.
The open-plan kitchen, dining and living spaces were designed to support both everyday living and entertaining. Bespoke cabinetry, generous bench space and integrated storage maximise functionality without compromising the home’s refined appearance. A wood-burning fireplace provides warmth and creates a welcoming focal point during the cooler months, while carefully selected finishes deliver durability alongside a timeless, residential character.
The private upper level accommodates a spacious bedroom, dedicated study nook and a well-appointed bathroom featuring natural stone-look finishes and custom joinery. Outdoor living was equally important to the brief, with the design incorporating generous external spaces that seamlessly extend the home’s living areas. A private courtyard and spa pool provide opportunities for relaxation, while future pergola options were explored to enhance usability throughout the year.
In addition to concept development, the project included engagement with builders to establish preliminary construction costs and ensure the design remained aligned with the client’s budget expectations. Comprehensive building consent documentation was prepared, coordinated and submitted, with responses provided throughout the Council’s RFI process. Development Contributions and planning requirements were also investigated to confirm statutory obligations before construction.
The result is a thoughtfully designed contemporary home that delivers a high level of amenity within a compact footprint, providing a flexible, efficient and enduring solution that comfortably accommodates changing lifestyle needs well into the future.
